responsibility

Committed to delivering services responsibly and sustainably

At Grundon we don’t see Corporate Responsibility as a buzzword, but a state of mind that is at the core of everything we do. Our decision making aims to ensure that at all times we are performing responsibly and that our success is built on sound ethics and effective sustainability.

Our commitment

We are committed to delivering our services responsibly and sustainably, ensuring that we meet the needs of our customers while managing and minimising the social, environmental and economic impacts of our operations and services.

We recognise that that by working in close partnership with our suppliers, customers, employees and the communities in which we operate we can make a great contribution to a sustainable society.

Our approach

Our distinctive approach, developed over the past 90 years, combines a commitment to innovation and technological progress with a genuine and demonstrable concern for the environment.

We continue to research and evaluate new, more efficient and environmentally focussed techniques for all aspects of our operations, including waste collection, waste treatment and recycling, resource recovery and diversion from landfill.

Key responsibilities

Our core value of being responsible requires that we focus on the following key areas:

  • Environmental – Protecting the local and global environment through responsible management, ensuring compliance, limiting climate change impacts, minimising waste and protecting biodiversity
  • Health and Safety – Promoting a positive safety culture that considers the health, safety and wellbeing of our employees and the wider community
  • Our People – Attracting a diversity of people to the organisation who believe in the same principles of responsibility and who are engaged through ongoing training and development
  • Community – Encouraging open, honest and respectful communication with the community, whilst supporting local enhancement initiatives that leave a lasting legacy

Grundon Management System

Since 2010, we have been committed to developing, implementing and operating an Integrated Management System.

The Grundon Management System fully satisfies the requirements of BS ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management), BS ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), BS OHSAS 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management) and BS ISO 50001 (Energy Management) under the framework guidance of PAS 99 (Integrated Management Systems).

Our management system has been fully integrated across all Grundon operating sites and locations since 2012. We continue to support the continuous improvement of the programme through our 49-strong team of trained internal auditors. They provide support and guidance, identify new areas of opportunity and best practice.

Our senior management team conduct quarterly reviews of all our operational sites. These reviews continue to create a specific collective focus on the analysis of data across the business, including customer feedback, results from internal audits, as well as BSI certification audits.

These reviews continue to create an opportunity to reflect on successes and also to make further improvements to the business and make progress towards our goals.

BSI, also known as the British Standards Institution, continue to be our certification body. BSI conducts ongoing assessment visits at each Grundon site and facility to independently assess our compliance with the management system standards, and identify further opportunities for improvement.

We continue to prove our commitment to delivering our services responsibly and sustainably.
