New site identified for Lakeside Energy from Waste replacement

The owners of Lakeside Energy from Waste (EfW) – a joint venture between Grundon Waste Management and Viridor – have announced plans to develop proposals for a replacement facility at a new site, west of the Iver South Treatment Works and around 600 metres north west of its current location.

Lakeside EfW has been working with Heathrow to secure a like for like replacement of the Lakeside EfW and the associated High Temperature Incinerator (HTI). These facilities will need to be moved to accommodate the proposed new third runway at Heathrow.

Lakeside EfW is currently carrying out a series of detailed site studies and environmental assessments, which will form an integral part of its planning application. More information will be presented at well publicised public consultation events during spring 2019.

These consultation events are completely separate from both the current Heathrow Aerospace consultation and the June Heathrow Expansion consultation.

Lakeside EfW Director Richard Skehens says,

“This is a major step towards replacing these important facilities, which play a valuable strategic role in regional and national waste management policy.

“Although this is just the first stage in a very long replacement programme – which will include applying for new Planning Permissions and new Environmental Permits – we are confident we are now moving in the right direction.

“We’ll publish more information about our plans for our two public consultation events in the spring.”
