Grundon renews partnership with FGR Football Club, continuing a decade-long collaboration

Grundon is thrilled to announce that we are back in the game with Forest Green Rovers (FGR) Football Club for another exciting season, renewing our partnership for 2023/2024.

This partnership, which kicked off back in 2012, has been a real game-changer in supporting numerous community initiatives to drive sustainability and environmental consciousness.

The League Two football club, based in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, has been on the ball to improve its waste management, working closely with Grundon to achieve its goal of recycling 100% of its waste.

As of 2017, FGR has sent zero waste to landfill and thanks to our close partnership, in 2019 they were awarded the prestigious Gold Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice in Sports Leisure & Hospitality. That same year, FGR was also named the world’s greenest football club by FIFA and is the first football club in the world to be certified carbon neutral by the United Nations.

Beyond waste management, Grundon and FGR have also teamed up in impactful community projects, including the Ambassador Scheme for Youth and Seniors, as well as extending support on the field to the U15 team.

Since its inception in 2015, the Ambassador Scheme has flourished, with 91 ambassadors and six senior ambassadors onboard for the current season. Grundon and FGR have also partnered with 60 different schools, providing opportunities for students to participate in sustainability initiatives and learn about protecting the planet.

Ambassadors don’t just cheer from the sidelines; they enjoy exclusive perks like season tickets and replica shirts. They take part in eco-friendly activities and attend induction sessions on reducing personal emissions. Plus, they get to meet players, wave flags, and travel to away games together on a coach provided by Grundon.

Ex-ambassadors don’t leave the game either; they join the Ambassadors Alumni as community champions, participating in projects that foster leadership skills and community development.

Christopher Kelly, Head of FGR Community, said: “We take immense pride in our ambassador programme, which enables us to connect with children and young people nationwide, sharing the values of Forest Green Rovers Football Club. This achievement would not be possible without the invaluable support of Grundon, whose unwavering passion for sustainability and local community empowerment is truly inspiring. We’re incredibly grateful for all the support from Grundon and thrilled to continue working with them for another season.”
