Like many businesses, we have seen a significant increase in fuel and energy costs in recent months, driven by ongoing global developments.
In order to maintain the quality and reliability of our services, Grundon introduced a temporary fuel surcharge effective from 1 April 2026.
On this page you will learn what the surcharge is, how it applies, and where to view the latest rates. This page is updated every month, giving you a clear and current view of any changes.
How much is the fuel surcharge currently?
As of 1 May 2026, the fuel surcharge is 3.65%.
How is the surcharge calculated and how often will you review it?
To ensure the Grundon fuel surcharge is applied fairly and transparently, we will review it each month against the Road Haulage Association (RHA) Average Bulk Purchase Diesel Price. This index reflects average bulk diesel purchase costs across the industry and provides an independent benchmark for monitoring fuel price movement. Please note, as it tracks bulk purchase process, it will differ from the prices you may see at the forecourt. These prices are exclusive of VAT.
The surcharge will increase or decrease in line with the pricing thresholds set out in the table below. This means any adjustment will be based on published market data rather than discretionary changes, helping customers understand when and why the surcharge may change.
Any revised surcharge will then apply to transport-related services and will continue to be shown as a separate line item on invoices.
This approach is intended to provide a clear, consistent and proportionate method for managing fluctuations in diesel costs while supporting the continued delivery of reliable services.
| Month | RHA Average Fuel Price | Grundon Surcharge Percentage |
|---|---|---|
| April 2026 | £1.4827 | 4.90% |
| May 2026 | £1.3847 | 3.65% |
For reference, the grid below shows the effect of the surcharge for every whole 5p change in price. Grundon apply the rate on a more accurate basis which can be seen in the below example for May.
