The Grundon team, which beat off competition from three other finalists, was praised by judges for its innovative and proactive approach, its capacity to instigate change and its investment in the latest resource recovery technologies and facilities.

A delighted Shaun Workman, special events manager said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have won. We work tirelessly to promote and encourage recycling activity at a wide range of year-round events and it’s wonderful to have our efforts recognised by some of the leading names in the event management industry.”

Judges included Colin Rodger, head of event management at DF Concerts, Chris Salmon, event operations director at Goodwood and Clive Little, director of events and programming at the London Legacy Development Corporation.

The Grundon Special Event Services team is dedicated to the needs of the events sector and is particularly successful thanks to its simple and effective “two bin” system for mixed recyclables and general (non-recyclable) waste which, when combined with its Energy from Waste option, enables event organisers to divert up to 95% of waste from landfill and significantly reduce their carbon footprint.

The team provides services to around 130 events a year, ranging from small local activities through to prestigious occasions such as The Championships, Wimbledon; Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone; Henley Royal Regatta and the Royal International Air Tattoo.
