Grundon Waste Management has been selected by Royal Air Force Charitable Trust Enterprises as its Recycling Partner for the 2009 Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT).
Determined to make this annual event as sustainable as possible, RIAT was seeking a company to work with them in continually identifying more environmentally acceptable ways of collecting and disposing of waste.
Grundon was selected because of its strong commitment to recycling and its extensive experience of dealing with outdoor events. Looking ahead the company will also be able to help RIAT divert residual (non recyclable) waste from landfill when its new Energy from Waste plant comes on stream.
Commenting on the appointment, Matthew Ball, Grundon’s Special Events Manager said:
“We are delighted to have secured this appointment for 2009 and hope that this will be the beginning of a long and successful partnership. We are working closely with RIAT to deliver a simple, highly effective and proven system for the collection of mixed recyclables. These include cardboard, paper, mixed colour glass bottles, plastic bottles and metal cans – in short a substantial proportion of the waste that over 170,000 visitors are expected to generate during the event”.
The 2009 Air Tattoo will be held at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire over the weekend of 18-19th July. This year the event celebrates the 60th anniversary of NATO; Fly Navy 100 will see 40-arcraft flypast to mark the 100th anniversary of UK Naval Aviation, and SeaSearch 09 will spotlight Maritime Patrol and Surveillance operations.
Tickets are selling fast and must be purchased in advance, as none will be available at the gate, so if you’re thinking of attending you need to act quickly.
