We are delighted to announce that The Green Award, sponsored by Grundon Waste Management, at the Thames Valley Business Magazine Awards has received a great response with companies and organisations from across the region entering.
Entrants into this years’ award have included previous winners GE Healthcare Limited, alongside a range of other organisations such as Dell Corporation, Chiltern Railways and Cofely GDF Suez amongst others.
The Green Award was open to companies and organisations of any size that are based in the Thames Valley, and that have been operating for at least one full year. The award seeks to encourage improved recycling and environmental performance at every level throughout the organisation, with a particular emphasis on staff buy-in. Recycling at home is now second nature to most people, but if the UK is to reach the goal of ‘zero waste to landfill’ then further improvements are needed in the workplace. This could be as simple as ensuring that employees recognise the importance of effective segregation, such that recyclables are not contaminated with food or residual waste.
The judging panel will be looking for innovation in environmental performance, for example a demonstrable reduction in the organisations’ carbon footprint through reduced energy consumption, and for evidence of sustainable performance rather than a ‘quick fix’. They will consider the management of waste, for example separate food waste collection or treatment, or measures taken to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, and the environmental benefits and any cost savings accrues as a result.
The shortlisted contenders for the award will announced on Friday 24 October 2014.
The Thames Valley Business Magazine Awards 2014 will be presented at a glittering black-tie dinner to be held at the Royal Berkshire Conference Centre at the Madejski Stadium in Reading on Thursday 20 November 2014.
Good luck to all those that have entered the category.
