Getting down and dirty

Industrial Services
Industrial Services

If something is dirty, dangerous or unusual – the chances are that our Industrial Services team has, at some stage, been asked to clean it.

From site decommissioning and plant removals; post fire or flood clean-up operations; high level access cleaning or pollution and spill control, our highly-trained and certified crew provides cleaning solutions for the most difficult and challenging environments.

Being able to offer our customers access to more than 40 years’ of industrial cleaning expertise is very important to us and the specialist skills we have in-house enable us to tackle even the most complex of tasks.

Leading our team is Industrial Services Manager David Green, formerly managing director of Arundelle Industrial Services, which became part of our Grundon family almost exactly a year ago.

There’s certainly no such thing as a typical day, as he explains: “The problems we tackle on a daily basis can range from chemical spillages and clean-ups to decommissioning of laboratory facilities; cleaning of tanks and vessels – for example in manufacturing or industrial processes – and high pressure jetting for surface cleaning and decontamination.

“All of these require in depth knowledge of the issues involved at each site. Clearly most customers want to ensure minimum disruption to their day-to-day activities, so we take a very flexible approach, working within shutdown periods, out-of-hours or around production lines and liaise closely with them to do the job as effectively and efficiently as possible.”

Our team has a solid reputation for problem solving and innovative use of technology, helping to keep customer costs down while achieving outstanding results.

Trained to the highest standards to work at height, in explosive atmospheres and in confined spaces, our attention to detail and experience means we can boast an
unblemished safety record.

Fully qualified, licensed and registered with OFTEC, CHAS, Constructionline, Environment Agency, we are compliant with all current environmental and HSE legislation.

And, with conditions often very extreme – especially when dealing with waste products such as heavy fuel oil, resins and inks – we have the latest PPE and respiratory equipment in order to cope with whatever is thrown at us.

It’s not all dirty work though, we also work with private individuals and customers within the leisure and hospitality industries, providing a deep cleaning service for pools, saunas and spas, as well as commercial kitchens, public areas, garden installations and sculptures.

Problem solving

We pride ourselves on being able to provide solutions and have successfully managed projects for organisations ranging from pharmaceutical companies, manufacturers, universities and many more.

One of the most unusual was when we were contacted by Raytheon, working on behalf of the American State Department.

It needed help to decontaminate and dismantle a mobile incinerator, used to eliminate chemical weapon stockpiles, deep in the mountains of Albania. With no working power supply or water, access to the site was via very difficult terrain.

Importing specialist equipment, PPE/RPE, ancillary services such as mobile power generators, a mobile laboratory and waste containers, enabled us to complete the
project within budget and on time.

Other challenges are often around access, recently we worked with a customer whose laboratory facilities were on the fourth floor of a building with no lift and very narrow stairs – requiring some very deft teamwork and smart thinking.

Elsewhere, a high level cleaning project at a car manufacturing plant recently required special lightweight carbon fibre vacuum poles, complete with on board camera, to carry out the work above a production line without causing disruption or the risk of damage.

With our great team behind us, we know that no matter how difficult, dirty or dangerous the problem – we have a solution.
