What are the normal hours of working?

Precise details vary according to individual contract of employment. In general, however, office/management employees work 35 hours per week (9.00 to 5.00).

How will I get paid?

Weekly wages are paid one week in arrears to your bank account or building society on the following Thursday. Monthly salaries are paid on or around 25th each month. Annual salary reviews are normally effective from the 1st October.

How about holidays?

The normal entitlement is four weeks paid holiday plus Bank and Statutory Holidays and this increases in time with service.

Do you have a Pension Scheme?

Yes. We run a Contributory Scheme, which you will be entitled to join, following the successful completion of your probationary period. Your contribution is 5%, matched by 5% from the company.

How about bonuses?

There are two bonus schemes in operation:

  • Christmas bonus rewards loyalty through your length of service
  • Annual bonus (normally payable in October) is discretionary and depends on Company profits.

Do you have a Company Healthcare scheme?

The health and wellbeing of all our people is extremely important to us. We run a Contributory Scheme (BHSF) for which you will be eligible on completion of your probation period. If your job involves the use of display screens you will also be entitled to free eye tests.

Is there a staff Car Park?

Free car parking is available at all depots and offices.

How about refreshments and toilet facilities?

Depending on the location of depots/offices, rest rooms with refreshment-making facilities are available for everyone. Some depots also have a canteen facility.

How long is this Probation Period I keep hearing about?

Normally six months, but it can be extended by discussion.

What do I wear to work?

It depends on your job. Other than the required uniform for non-office employees there is no formal dress code other than smart appropriate office attire. Dirty or torn clothes, including denim jeans and shorts, are considered inappropriate. We provide free workwear/safety wear to all non-office based employees. Office based employees who wish to purchase Company logo shirts/polo shirts, may do so through their manager.

Do you have a policy on smoking?

Yes. From 1 July 2007 all public places, including company vehicles, will be no smoking areas. Specially built external smoking shelters are available.
