Paper & Card

Recycling a tonne of paper saves almost 13 trees. It saves 2.5 barrels of oil, 4100kWh of electricity, 4 cubic metres of landfill and 31,780 litres of water. Every year we need a forest the size of Wales to provide the paper we use in Britain.

Metals

Recycling metals saves non-renewable resources such as Bauxite, iron ore and sand. The energy it takes to make one new aluminium can is enough to make 20 recycled ones.

Plastics

Plastics can take up to 400 years to break down in a landfill. 56 % of recycled PET finds a market in the manufacture of carpet and clothing. The energy saved by recycling 1 bottle will power a computer for 25 minutes.

Textiles

Taking clothes charity shops and jumble sales helps raise local and world-wide funding. Old clothes can also be taken to Clothes Banks with the wearable items going to charities and developing countries. Non-wearable items are used for filling materials, wiper cloths or the fibres are reclaimed.

Glass

Our mixed colour glass collections eliminate the need for separate bins and separate collections for each colour of glass.

Green Waste

Vegetable, fruit peelings and garden waste make up almost a third of your bin. Composting this material improves the quality of your garden soil.

Residual Waste

This is what is left over. The un-recyclable material which consists of dust, cigarette ash, the vacuum cleaner bag, toothpaste tubes, takeaway packaging, leftovers, sanitary products, garden hose, crisp packets, broken toys, etc. This is the only waste that need be in your bin.

Recyclable Hazardous Waste

Waste is considered to be hazardous when it contains substances or has properties that make it an oxidising agent, flammable, irritant, harmful, toxic, carcinogenic, corrosive, infectious, mutagenic or ecotoxic.
