We produce engineering clays at our own sites for irrigation lagoons, waterfowl flight ponds and fishponds.
Other uses include landfill engineering for the lining and capping of sites and other engineering applications.
With an average plasticity index of 30% and a mean permeability of 10ˆ11 ms-1 the stable clays meet Department of Transport standards for road construction and NRA landfill engineering quality control standards.
Grundon produce engineering/puddle clay at the following sites:
Bishops Cleeve quarry produces Blue Lias clay, used extensively for the lining of landfill sites and for emergency repairs to a breach in the Sharpness Canal, also used to widen the M5 between junctions 6 and 8 in Worcestershire.
Knowl Hill Quarry produces a Reading Beds Clay and it is used locally for construction and civil engineering and landfill sites.
As weather controls the availability of this material, please telephone for availability.
Frithend quarry produces a Surrey clay, which has been used for construction and civil engineering projects, but is also used in the production of cricket loams used at venues such as Lords and Wembley.
Clays are supplied in a workable state, ready for conditioning and puddling if necessary. We have large reserves of high quality engineering and puddle clays for specialist contracts.
