Oxford United Girls Shine at England Trials

31/01/2011

The New Year started off in the best possible way for two young players from Oxford United’s Girls Centre of Excellence.

Demi Lambourne from the Under 16’s and Ella Franklin Fraiture from the Under 14’s were selected to attend the second phase of England trials at the Hive Football Centre in Barnet.

Demi, along with Ellie Roberts, Lindsay Pinker and Isi Meade from the Under 16’s, attended the first phase trials back in October 2010 along with Under 14’s Ella, Sophie Baker, Sarah Tierney and Nat Morris.

Each of the 50 centres within the FA’s Centre of Excellence programme was asked to send up to 4 players from each of the Under 14 and Under 16 age groups to the initial camp, adding up to over 200 players per age group. From these players the best were selected and asked to return.

Both Demi and Ella caught the eye of the England scouts and coaches and were selected for the second phase. As well as playing in two 11 v. 11 games, the girls will be put through various fitness tests and technical exercises and also a nutrition programme.

This is the first time that players from the Oxford United Girls Centre of Excellence have been invited to attend the second phase selection process, so as well as being a huge achievement for Demi and Ella, it’s also a great achievement for the centre.

Our congratulations go to both Demi and Ella for gaining the recognition they deserve and also to the coaches at the Centre for providing the right environment and development framework for the girls to realise their true potential.

Grundon is proud to sponsor the Oxford United Girls Centre of Excellence.
