Lakeside Energy from Waste wins 2nd Award

26/05/2010

Following its success in the 2009 Letsrecycle Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management, Lakeside Energy from Waste, the Colnbrook-based joint venture between Grundon and Viridor, has won a second award.

The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards showcases the very best projects in both the built and the natural environment, celebrating excellence in Building Conservation, Community Benefit, Regeneration and Sustainability.

In a year which saw a record number of entries for the RICS South East Awards 2010, Lakeside beat off competition from eight other high profile projects to win the category of Community Benefit - link to Image of the RICS Community Benefit Award Certificate.

Commenting on the decision Paul Vale, South East Region Judge said: “This project was difficult to assess, because it did not fit the normal profile for Community Benefit. Nevertheless, it has been located centrally to the community it serves with good transport links and has succeeded in efficiently turning waste from that community into energy; it has processes in place for recycling almost 100% of the waste product from the facility.”

Regional category winners will now be taken forward to the RICS Awards 2010 grand final to be held in October.
