Grundon in the Community

03/12/2009

Grundon works hard to support a range of community projects close to its various depots through sponsorship or discounted services. One such initiative concerns Newlands Park at Bishops Cleeve near Cheltenham.

Newlands Park is the former Smiths’ Industries Sports & Social Club facility. Purchased two years ago by Cheltenham Tigers RFC, the club has ambitious plans for improvements and additions to the complex. In addition to the Tigers’ own teams the pitches now play host to a number of rugby and soccer teams and also an archery club, all on a regular basis.

Inside the clubhouse, a number of function and committee rooms have been created for use by local community organisations, presently including a dance class and a martial arts club amongst others. With full catering facilities and extensive parking, Newlands is also proving a popular venue for wedding receptions.

The facility also includes 2 full size tennis courts which the club are hoping to renovate in time, but additional sponsors will be needed to help fund this.

Grundon has supported the Tigers’ efforts over a number of years, most recently as pitch sponsor. Whilst the creation of additional sporting facilities for young people is admirable in its own right, Grundon is particularly pleased to be associated with a project that is bringing much wider benefits to the local community.

During October & November a series of Mini-Rugby tournaments were staged at the Newlands Park ground of Cheltenham Tigers RFC. The first of these took place on 18th October involving the Under 9 and Under 10 age groups and Grundon’s Marketing Manager Kevin Brewer was on hand to present the trophies.
