At the prestigious Letsrecycle Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management ceremony on 20th October, Lakeside Energy from Waste (EfW) plant and education centre, a joint venture between Grundon Waste Management and Viridor, scooped the award for ‘Innovation in design of a waste management facility’.

The Lakeside EfW facility and education centre at Colnbrook, near Heathrow airport, was recognised for its forward-thinking design elements and positive impact on the local landscape.
Key features of the innovative design include:
Lakeside Director and Grundon MD Richard Skehens, said, “The Lakeside EfW plant and education centre are genuine examples of creative designs which effectively combine function and form. They not only enhance the local landscape and respect the environment, they also deliver technical advantages. We’re delighted with the judging panel’s decision which clearly demonstrates that modern, purpose designed waste management facilities like the Lakeside EfW plant not only help to reduce the amount of residual waste sent to landfill, they can also be buildings of beauty in their own right”.
Lakeside EfW is designed to treat 410,000 tonnes of residual waste from businesses and local authorities while producing 37MW of electricity – enough to power 50,000 homes.
The Awards for Excellence are organised by leading waste and recycling online publication Letsrecycle.com to recognise best practice, innovation and achievement in the sector.
