Grundon stages public exhibition at Bishops Cleeve site

19/02/2009

As part of its long term consultation programme with the local community, Grundon Waste Management recently held a public exhibition to talk to local residents about the existing operations and the long term plans for its Bishops Cleeve site. The exhibition was held in the new Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) building on site and was combined with a programme of site visits.

Grundon is seeking to extend the site life until 2029, to complete the extraction of mineral resources and restore the site to the agreed profile. The application is only to extend the life of the site, so most elements of the operations would remain the same. The company expects there to be no change to:

  • footprint (area) of the landfill
  • the remaining operational area would actually be reduced by 14% to accommodate stand-offs and surface water management ponds
  • range of waste types permitted by the Environment Agency
  • methods of operation, although a leachate treatment plant and additional landfill gas engines are proposed
  • total number of vehicles
  • restoration profile
  • operating hours
