Environmental Report highlights 41% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions

The latest Corporate Environmental Report published by Grundon Waste Management demonstrates the ongoing effectiveness of improvements the company has made in order to reduce its environmental impact.

The latest report covers the two-year period January 2006 – December 2007, with 2005 figures for comparison, and measures performance against a core set of environmental indicators developed by the Green Alliance.

Headline achievements covered by this latest report include:

  • 41% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (79% reduction since reporting began in 2000)
  • 50% increase in electricity generated at landfill sites by harnessing methane gas emissions – sufficient to power an additional 3700 homes
  • overall 1 Mile per Gallon improvement in fuel economy across the waste transport fleet
  • 2350 additional trees planted at the company’s sites.

This is the third such report published by Grundon, following previous editions in 2000 and 2005. Commenting on the report, Toni Robinson, Compliance Manager said:
“I’m immensely proud of the fact that we have stuck to our commitment to publish on a regular basis, and that we’re again able to demonstrate significant improvements in the company’s performance.

It’s also good to receive external recognition for our efforts - The Carbon Trust recently commented that our Report was one of the better examples produced.

Even more important is the fact that the report, and all of the monitoring and measurement activities that underpin it, have produce a culture change within the company. More and more of our people understand the significance of what we are achieving, and they place great value on that”.
