Job Purpose

To assist and in the absence of the Vehicle Workshop Manager provide an efficient day-by-day control and supervision of the depot vehicle workshop and maintain daily contact with the Depot Operations Manager or Transport Office regarding immediate requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Supervisor responsibilities

In the absence of the Vehicle Workshop Manager:

  • Assume responsibility for workshop and fitters in terms of time keeping, work and general competence.
  • Responsibility for maintaining individual vehicle service records, collating job sheets and arranging annual MOT tests.

Main Duties

  • The maintenance, servicing and daily roadworthiness of all vehicles, cars and vans based at Ewelme depot or any other vehicle on temporary loan from another depot.
  • On a daily basis, liaise with the transport department regarding vehicle situations regarding inspections, services, repairs availability etc.
  • On a daily basis, liaise with third party repairers and sub contractors.
  • Instruct and advise workshop fitters and trainees on work required and being carried out.
  • In the absence of the Vehicle Workshop Manager, inspect standard of work whilst being carried out and also on completion.
  • Attend vehicle repair and maintenance courses and communicate the information to all fitters.
  • Attend supervisory and manufacturers meetings as instructed.
  • In the absence of the Vehicle Workshop Manager, prohibit vehicles from being used if they present a risk to road safety.
  • Be proactive in moving workshop forward, i.e. looking for way to improve ways of working.
  • Act as liaison office between fitters and management team.

Health & Safetly

  • Ensure all rules pertaining to Health and Safety are adhered to.
  • At all times be responsible for the safety of yourself, all personnel and visitors in and around the immediate area of the workshop.

Working Conditions

  • Due to the nature of the job, it may be necessary to attend to vehicles outside the workshop facility, in conditions ranging from motorway verges to landfill sites, which may also be subjected to extremes of dirt and other environmental conditions.
  • Can also be called upon to work at heights exceeding four feet above ground level.
  • Will have access to an office facility within the workshop area for general administrative duties.
