Job Purpose
Working alongside the other Regional Fleet Engineer and Regional Operations Manager the jobholder is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Workshops within his/her area, including Employing Manager responsibility for the personnel within.
In addition, the jobholder will ensure the fleet vehicles both operating and complying with the Department of Transport maintenance requirements for holding an Operators Licence.
Key Responsibilities
Workshops
- To manage and lead the Workshop personnel within the area of responsibility and ensure a high level of motivation and morale is maintained in the Workshops and individual potential is encouraged and developed.
- Maintain awareness of everyone regarding Health & Safety and Security.
- Responsibility for recruitment and disciplinary issues in conjunction with the HR Manager.
- To liaise regularly with the Regional Fleet Engineer and Regional Operations Manager so as to ensure cohesion and consistency of any new iniatives etc.
- Ensure that all Company Health & Safety and Personnel policies and procedures are complied with and applied in a fair and consistent way.
- Identify any training needs in liaison with the Health & Safety and Training Manager.
- Ensure compliance of 'O' Licence with regard to maintenance scheduling and M.O.Ts.
- Liaison with external vehicle/body suppliers to ensure the best price and service levels are obtained.
Fleet
- Within Company policy and being consistent with other depots control the purchasing of equipment; parts and services, ensuring the specifications are to a high standard.
- Liaise with external manufacturers and suppliers regarding contract's to obtain the best price and service levels.
- Any other duties, such as ad hoc projects, as dictated by the Operations Director and within the skills and knowledge of the job holder will be expected from time to time.
Key Skills / Experience
- At least ten years experience within the waste management industry within a supervisory / managerial role.
- Competent in equipment evaluation.
- Proven record in Fleet Management.
- Time served apprentice engineer.
- Confident communicator, both written and verbal.
- High importance to providing the best customer service.
- Strong team worker with ability to lead and motivate.
- Ability to move and change systems and processes within a growing business.
- Negotiating skills, leadership skills, supervisory skills.
- Have a good working knowledge of O licences, costs, current and new legislation, vehicle maintenance.
