9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., (alternating with 8.00 to 4.00 and 9.30 to 5.30 after probation period) Monday to Friday. A total of 35 hour per week. |
Job Purpose
The job holder, who will be part of a 5-strong team, will provide a business-driven programming and support role to service the Company's ever-growing needs in this particular area of IT. The role is split between programming and technical support, approximately 60/40.
Key Duties
Programming (60%)
- Analysing user and business requirements and producing workable and user-friendly end product.
- Supporting / Modifying in-house written packages and programmes.
- Undertaking ad hoc projects such as writing code for Vehicle Maintenance System; T&A System; HRIS etc.
Support (40%)
- Providing user support over the telephone and face to face.
- Configure, test and install new and re-conditioned PCs and servers.
- Ensure compliance with the Company's Anti-virus Policy.
- Check daily backups and update the relevant spread sheet.
- Continually update the Intranet, typically vacancy adverts, policies etc.
- Provide general hardware and peripheral support.
- Run updates on users PCs using patch management tools.
- Visit other Grundon sites and users to provide support.
- Any other duties, such as ad hoc projects, as requested by the manager that are within the skills and capabilities of the jobholder.
Key Skills / Knowledge
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- IT literate: a good working knowledge of MS Office and VB. SQL, Crystal Reporting, ASP and HTML would be advantageous.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Practical, hands-on approach: displaying a 'can do attitude'.
- Understanding who the customer is, both internal and external, and possessing excellent customer service skills.
Experience
- Minimum 1 year commercial programming or support experience, ideally within a multi-site, service orientated environment.
- Track record of design and delivery of workable code.
Qualifications
- Educated to at least GCSE (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English at Grade C or above.
- Ideally a qualification in an IT discipline.
