How do you save £100 per tonne on your Recycling collections ?

Dear Sir/Madam

Having spent over 40 years in the Waste Management business I have become increasingly concerned over the various recycling collection systems, which are being adopted by some local authorities.

Many of these systems are not using collection compaction trucks and are using up to four times the amount of fuel that compaction vehicles use to collect the same tonnage of material. This adds to global warming, congestion on our streets, and naturally a cost to the taxpayer.

Our streets and country lanes are becoming littered with different coloured boxes, which attract all sorts of vermin and flies.  Many Councils are also assuming that the householder is expert in grading an infinite number of materials. Can they make this assumption?  If we genuinely want 100% of householders to participate in recycling then we must make the collection system simple, hygienic, and cost effective.

We at Grundon Waste Management Ltd have successfully tested for five years a mixed recycling system with Hillingdon Borough Council and Mole Valley Borough Council, using one wheeled bin/bag for all mixed recyclables and one for residual waste. Then it is taken to our mechanical central sorting plant for professional sorting.

Please see the attached .pdf (KerbsideVCentral Sorting.jpg) for more information on the plant layout or contact Julie Charrington on 01753 686777 or by email on julie.charrington@grundon.com

I hope we can help you in resolving a necessary but controversial subject, which at the moment is attracting a massive amount of media attention.

From the Office of

Norman S Grundon FCIWM - Chairman
