Residual Waste (Non Recyclable)

Residual Waste Collection and Disposal

At Grundon we enthusiastically support the waste hierarchy and focus our efforts on the reuse and recycling of waste materials. However, we understand that not everything that you throw away can be recycled or recovered. Unfortunately, there will be waste that realistically cannot be segregated into recyclable streams. This left over waste material is often referred to as residual, non-recyclable or general waste.

What are the benefits of Grundon’s residual waste collection and disposal service?

Our reliable and cost-efficient residual waste collection and disposal service is tailor made to meet your specific requirements, no matter how large or small they are. We provide you with the correct waste container or bin for your general waste requirements and empty it on a pre-agreed schedule of service that is convenient for you and offers minimal disruption to your business.

Not only will you benefit from our consistent and prompt residual waste collection service, you can also rely on us to deal with your general waste in the most compliant manner, ensuring that its treatment is in accordance with all environmental legislation. We also look to put your waste to good use.

We can recover green energy from your general waste

Where possible we can send your residual waste to our state-of-the-art Lakeside Energy from Waste facility in Colnbrook, near Heathrow, where it can be used to generate 37MW of electricity. This is then exported to the National Grid, where it is enough to power approximately 50,000 homes, which is equivalent to a town the size of Slough. As well as providing an environmentally friendly solution to treating and disposing of your general waste, recovery of energy via Energy from Waste can benefit you financially, as you will not incur the increased cost of disposal of your waste at landfill, which subject to Landfill Tax.

Where disposal of your waste at our Energy from Waste plant is not viable it may be disposed of at one of our landfill sites. We have invested in landfill gas infrastructure, ensuring that even if your waste is disposed of at landfill it can still generate green electricity.

However your residual waste is disposed of, you can rest assured that Grundon’s industry-leading facilities will ensure the treatment is managed in a safe and controlled manner.

Minimising the financial and environmental impacts of your waste and promoting recycling

As part of our commitment to providing you with a total waste management service, we look to work in partnership with you to minimise the financial and environmental impacts of your waste. We work with you to raise awareness of the cost of waste production, both financially and through its impacts on the environment. Our engagement programmes also highlight practical approaches to recycling and the role your employees can play in reducing waste and increasing recycling rates.

We can assist you in meeting your recycling targets through the following:
  • Providing you with an analysis of the waste streams you generate, the volumes you produce and the types of wastes which are suitable for recycling
  • The design of a bespoke recycling collection service for those recyclable waste materials identified in the analysis. The design of this collection service will include the correct frequency of collections required to meet the requirements of the volumes of waste that you produce
  • Providing you with clearly labelled and colour coded bags, containers and bins for each identified recyclable waste stream
  • If required, we can work with your cleaning contractor to implement procedures that will ensure recyclable streams are collected separately and correct segregation is maintained
  • Promotion of recycling schemes and procedures to your employees, raising awareness and engagement on the benefits of correct segregation and separating items from general waste
  • Reporting on recycling performance
  • Management of contracts with the recyclable reprocessing facilities and specialist collection contractors, maintaining the best value for you
  • Auditing of recyclable waste streams to prevent contamination of your waste occurring
Grundon place great importance on engaging with your employees and gaining their ‘buy-in’. After all, they are on the front-line and can have a dramatic effect on correct segregation, increasing your recycling rates, improving your environmental performance and reducing the cost of your waste disposal.
