Hazardous Waste Transfer Station

Hazardous Waste Transfer Station

Grundon operate a Hazardous Waste Transfer Station near Wallingford, South Oxfordshire. Ideally located, with easy access to the M4, M40 and A34, our Hazardous Waste Transfer Station provides a convenient point where hazardous waste materials are bulked up before being sent on for further treatment or disposal.

Our Hazardous Waste Transfer Station is licensed to accept all types and quantities of hazardous waste. The facility has expanded within recent years, following the introduction of a range of new processing and recycling technologies. This has led the facility being of increasing national, as well as regional, importance.

What hazardous waste streams does the Hazardous Waste Transfer Station accept?

Our Hazardous Waste Transfer Station excels at accepting mixed loads of hazardous waste, with the emphasis on recycling materials where possible. The facility’s industry-leading onsite equipment and the expertise of our employees enable us to provide specialist disposal methods for the following hazardous waste streams:

  • Aerosols – our state-of-the-art recycling facility for aerosols is one of only two plants in the UK to offer Best Available Technology (BAT) for the disposal of waste aerosols, and is the world’s most advanced closed loop aerosol recycling system. This means that every single component, including the propellant, is recycled or reprocessed in a totally safe oxygen free environment, with zero emissions released into the atmosphere. The facility is capable of processing around 9,000 aerosols an hour – approximately 72,000 aerosols a day on an average eight hour shift
  • Batteries – we segregate and recycle individual cells and power packs including NiCd, NiMH, Li-ion Wet Cells and Lead Acids
  • Packaged Waste – our facility provides de-packing of all liquid wastes up to 25 litres, including paints, adhesives, pesticides and low and non-hazardous liquids
  • Laboratory smalls – we provide segregation and disposal by the most appropriate method
  • Pharmaceuticals – we provide a service for the sorting, segregation and disposal of all components by the most appropriate method, including high temperature incineration at our Hazardous Waste Incinerator
  • Shredding – this facility offers shredding for security and destruction purposes, or volume reduction
  • Fluorescent tube recycling – our facility provides filtered crushing for the recovery of components
  • Additional recycling options – our facility also offers further recycling options for materials such as metals, oils, solvents (including chlorinated solvents), fridges and freezers, and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
