Hazardous Waste Incineration

Hazardous Waste Incineration

At Grundon, our pioneering approach to environmentally friendly disposal options led us to building the UK’s first hazardous waste incineration facility in 1990.

We have kept this innovative attitude as technology and legislation have progressed, and today our modern and updated facility forms a key part of our integrated waste management structure.

What are the benefits of using the High Temperature Hazardous Waste Incinerator?

Our high temperature incinerator is a safe, controlled and environmentally friendly route for your clinical waste. The facility, which processes 1.25 of waste per hour, has its own environmental pollution control equipment and is capable of operating independently of the main Energy from Waste (EfW) plant with which it shares a stack.

This method also minimises your environmental impact, as it diverts waste from landfill and heat produced via the incineration process is used to power a steam turbine which generates electricity. The facility is also fitted with the latest technology gas scrubbing system to ensure that emissions meet the most stringent standards set by the EC.

How does the High Temperature Hazardous Waste Incinerator work?

After your waste arrives at our site the process starts when it is tipped into the primary combustion chamber. This chamber reaches temperatures of 1000°C, and the heat produced is used to drive steam turbines which generate electricity which is fed to the National Grid.

Our High Temperature Clinical Waste Incinerator offers a sustainable outlet for your clinical waste and is another excellent example of how Grundon can reduce the financial and environmental impacts of your waste, whilst ensuring that you remain fully compliant with all relevant legislation and regulations.
