Grundon presses the button on top BAMA award

Grundon Waste Management has been named as the 2018 winner of the prestigious Sustainability Award in the annual British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association (BAMA) awards.

The awards recognise and reward innovation across the aerosol sector and the announcement was made on 17 October, at BAMA’s Forum and Awards Dinner, held at Oulton Hall Hotel, Leeds.

The award was collected by Tim Buxton, Grundon’s Transfer Station Operations and Development Manager, together with colleagues Paul McConaghy and Tom Damasevicius.

Grundon's Paul McConaghy and Tim Buxton celebrate winning the prestigious BAMA Sustainability Award 2018, which was presented to them by the Reverend Richard Coles.

Jonathan Harris, Grundon’s General Manager - Technical, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have won the Sustainability award and would like to thank the judges for their comments.

“We work very hard to ensure sustainability and environmental good practice is at the heart of everything we do, both in our own Grundon operations and in the work we do with all our customers. To have that recognised by such an industry-leading organisation is extremely gratifying.”

The BAMA judges were looking companies who had demonstrated measurable environmental successes, reduction of carbon footprint, and improvements in reuse and recycling.

Grundon’s entry highlighted its own sustainability success stories, including:

-        the development and launch of the AeroPak, the world’s most advanced closed loop aerosol recycling system

-        a CarbonNeutral® certified vehicle collection fleet, ensuring all collections and journeys are carbon neutral and do not add to a customers’ carbon footprint

-        supporting environmental and community projects across its operating areas through both sponsorships and funding from the Landfill Communities Fund

In addition, Grundon also demonstrated how it partners with customers to minimise the financial and environmental impacts of their waste, helping them to achieve goals such as zero waste to landfill and reductions in their carbon footprint.

Patrick Heskins, BAMA chief executive, said: “This year is the 10th anniversary of the BAMA forum and awards and the award winners epitomise the high standards which continually push the aerosol industry forward.

“Congratulations to the winners, runners up and those who were highly commended and thank you to all those who entered the 2018 awards. The skill, commitment and innovation showcased in the entries underpin BAMA’s commitment to driving sustainable growth of the aerosol industry.”

The awards were judged by a panel of experts, who commented afterwards: “The standard of entries was so high – it made it very difficult to select the winners.

“The entrants were evidence of the industry’s exemplary standards at every stage of the supply chain, whether it’s creating new formulations to designing packing or bringing solutions to waste and disposal. Our congratulations to all the entrants and the very worthy winners.”

The evening also included a guest appearance from broadcaster, writer and Church of England priest, the Reverend Richard Coles.

The winners in each of the four categories received a £500 voucher with runners up receiving a £250 voucher.
